The historic site of Perperikon offers a fantastic insight into a lost civilisation. Although it is an extremely difficult archaeological site to climb and walk around, it is well worth a visit if you are in Southern Bulgaria. Otherwise enjoy these photos of the archaeology, the ornate chambers, the ritual sacrificial alters and the views from this superb historical site.

Perperikon set high up on a hill in southern Bulgaria with its spectacular views shows us a glimpse into a lost civilisation with its formal pavements and well defined chambers

Perhaps the very first double sofa, after all, it was a couch with a view!
5* accommodation...

we noticed ancient etchings in the stone work
Perperikon is not an easy archaeological site to navigate around, climbing around the ancient holy temple is for the fit and agile, I wouldn't recommend it for young children
